Rules for Premature Junctional Contraction

Regularity: Since this is a single ectopic beat, the underlying rhythm will be irregular

Rate:  The rate depends on the rate of the underlying rhythm.

P WAVE:  Usually there will not be a P wave present in front of the premature beat.  If there is, it will be inverted.  Otherwise it would be considered a PAC.  There may or may not be P waves present in the underlying rhythm.

PRI:  PRI can only be measured if there is a P wave in front of the premature beat.  The PRI in the underlying rhythm will be different than that of the premature beat.

QRS:  Measures less than 0.12 seconds.
